What is a domain name?
Before you sign up for web hosting, you need to register a
domain name. A domain name is much like a personalized license plate for your
web site. There are IP addresses attached to hosting accounts (example:
205.245.190.21) While these are hard to remember - Domain names make it possible
to replace these numbers with a personalized name or title. These domain names
point to your web hosting account IP address making it possible to type in your
domain name to view your web site.
Examples of a domain name would be
www.myonlinebusiness.com, but not all domain names have to end with
a ".com". Currently there are many extensions available - .com,
.net, .org, .us, .cc, .biz, .info. Click here to see the list of all
available extensions. In Procom we make it possible to register your
domain name and be hosting all in one place.
What is Web Hosting?
In order for a website to be available on the web, it must
be housed on a web server. Web hosts provide space on their servers to store
website files and cgi scripts. Procom offers all server platforms which
include Unix, Windows NT, and Cobalt for any type of hosting needs.
